Lumous lighting, a domestic lighting professional, is living in a time of great change. Lumous offers LED lighting solutions for professionals such as street, destination and tunnel lighting, as well as special luminaires for industry.
Nico Kuula, entrepreneur and CEO at Lumous, says that the last two years have been a time of great change for both him and the company. “To be honest, I had no idea what was coming when I started talking to the Lumous team a couple of years ago,” he says, “My background is in small electronics and software, so getting into LED technology was not a big challenge as expected, but it was a new market for me and the structural changes needed for growth were a bit of a surprise.”
Since Kuula joined Lumous in the summer of 2022, the company has undergone significant changes, right down to the board and ownership base. According to Jukka Koponen, who has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lumous for several years now, the change of responsible persons and the new CEO have also succeeded in involving the Board of Directors in the company’s activities more closely than ever before.
“There have been a lot of changes, but this has been a much-needed development,” says Chairman Koponen, and continues “We have a new committed ownership and board with a lot of high-level expertise and good ideas, and now also a leader who is able to put these into practice. Doing the same things does not produce new results, and we have been very pleased with the steps that have already been taken and the direction we are now taking.”
CEO Kuula says that the changes have not stopped with changes in personnel, but the company has also been rapidly developing its product range.
Product development has been done both to introduce new luminaire models to the market and to improve the quality and pricing of old products. In Kuula’s words, “The work will not stop any time soon, but there have been some good successes already. For example, I could mention the VP1012 motorway luminaire, which was completed and delivered last year after more than a year of development, and the VP2223 tunnel luminaire, the price of which has now been reduced by almost a fifth in the first half of the year, while improving delivery reliability”.
According to the CEO, one of the company’s key objectives for 2024 is to increase its foothold in outdoor public lighting projects in Finland.
